BATTLEFIELDS GALLIPOLI 2 NIGHTS / 3 DAYS
Day 01 - ÇANAKKALE (D)
Arrive in Istanbul where you are met by your KD guide and driver at the airport. Immediate departure for the Peninsula where we arrive after a 5 hour drive (includes a coffee stop in Tekirdag).
After lunch drive along the Aegean coast for your first visit to the ANZAC landing beaches. See Ari Burnu cemetery and Beach cemetery where among others, is the grave of John Simpson Kirkpatrick ‘’man with the donkey’’. Stop at ANZAC commemorative site for a stunning view of the iconic Sphinx and finish the day at the very beautiful Shrapnel Valley cemetery for a walk up Plugges Plateau for a wonderful panoramic overview of the battlefields before returning to the hotel.
Check in at the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 02 - ÇANAKKALE (B,L,D)
We begin today by driving up along the ridges to Lone Pine, the largest Anzac cemetery and further on to Johnston’s Jolly, Courtney & Steel’s Post, Quinn’s Post to The Nek, where the 3rd Australian Light Horse made its infamous bayonet attack. We also visit Walkers Ridge cemetery, and take in the view down towards the Sphinx, North Beach and Ari Burnu. We then continue further up to Chunuk Bair, the New Zealand Memorial, before reaching Hill 971 – the highest point and a key position held by the Turks, with views to both Suvla Bay to the north-west and Anzac Beaches to the south-west.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 03 - ÇANAKKALE (B, L)
This morning we travel to the southern tip of the Peninsula for a guided tour of the landing at Cape Helles and Krithia Battlefields, including a short walk to Achi Baba, one of the highest points the Allied forces tried to capture. Also visit the impressive Turkish Memorial and “S” Beach at Morto Bay, and “V” Beach, the planned main British landing.
At noon travel back to Istanbul.
